Sustainable Building

Renovating the neglected 5-bedroom house in Windhoek embodies sustainable building principles, integrating eco-friendly materials, natural airflow and passive designs as well as energy-efficient solutions.

The farmhouse kitchen features prosopis wooden doors & drawers with home-made hinges and handles, natural-color cement countertops, and a red brick wall under the bar counter, sourced locally to reduce carbon footprint.

LED lighting under floating shelves minimizes energy consumption, while galvanized pipe and wood shelving in the scullery and cool room promote resource efficiency.

The office's new floor utilizes sustainable materials, and outside, the deck's lowered height increases the space with no step.

Repainting the house with low-VOC paints enhances indoor air quality.

Roof leaks are repaired, gutters installed for rainwater redirecting, and the workshop and laundry room revamped with recycled materials.

Raised garden walls promote water conservation, with landscaping aimed at biodiversity enhancement.

WiFi switches for lighting and pool pump control optimize energy usage, marking a modern holistic approach to sustainability in this renovation.
